House rewiring
Cwmbran, Newport and South Wales
Wiring does not last forever. If your house still has its original cables, or the electrics have been added to piece by piece over the years, a rewire puts in a safe, modern installation with enough sockets in the right places. We carry out full and partial rewires across South Wales.

Signs a house needs rewiring
- Rubber or fabric covered cables, common in houses wired before the 1970s
- An old fuse box, or a mix of old and new wiring
- Lighting circuits with no earth
- Sockets that feel warm, scorch marks, or a burning smell
- Too few sockets, and extension leads everywhere
- An EICR that lists widespread problems
Full or partial
A full rewire replaces every circuit, the consumer unit and the accessories. A partial rewire replaces the parts that need it, such as one floor or the kitchen, and is often enough when the rest of the wiring tests well. An EICR first is the best way to know which you need.
How a rewire is done
First fix: new cables are run through walls, floors and ceilings before plastering and decorating. Second fix is fitting the sockets, switches, lights and the new consumer unit. Everything is then tested, the work is notified to building control, and you get an Electrical Installation Certificate.
Plastering and decorating afterwards are usually done by other trades. Your written quote sets out exactly what is included, so there are no surprises.
Questions
01Can I live in the house during a rewire?
Often, yes, especially for a partial rewire. A full rewire is easier in an empty house, but it can often be done in stages so the house stays usable. We agree the approach with you before work starts.
02How long does a full rewire take?
It depends on the size of the house and whether it is empty. A typical family house takes several working days. You will know the plan before work starts.
03Will it make a mess?
Some, because cables have to be chased into walls and floorboards lifted. We agree with you how the work will be done and what state the rooms are left in, so you know what to expect.
